The thing about need-based prayer...

Hey fammmmm!

Welcome to my birthday week! (yes, I just had to add that somewhere.😅)

Confession time:

In October of 2020, I resigned from my job. Not that of myself, I would have done so but it's just that I was put in a position where resigning was the best thing to do. Certainly wasn't expecting that but it was what it was, really.

When this happened, I was optimistic that I would find work in no time. Well, that didn't happen. So, I prayed... and I prayed and I prayed.

There were times when I was so sure of an open door coming my way. There were also those times when an unexpected call from someone would come, telling me of an potential job offer or something. Feeling hopeful, I would wait and suddenly not hear from them. Chale...

So believe me when I say that I know what it means to wait for that "phone call".
...that feeling when an unregistered number shows up on your phone and you find yourself wondering which company the caller may be coming from...

My confession is, in those seasons of waiting, I kept praying about a job. My prayers ranged from getting a job, positioning myself to get a job and doing well to not miss that door.

Then one day, out of the blue and after almost 16months of waiting, I got my first interview.

And that first interview led to a series of interviews and now, I have a job! Praise the Lord.

But you know, one morning after signing the contract, I remember asking myself: what next?

That question had been lingering on my mind for a while. And then last week, I heard a teaching on prayer which answered the question on my mind...

The thing about need-based prayer, as the name implies, is that you build your prayer life according to a particular need you have. What happens is that once that need is met and you are okay with your current state, you may oftentimes feel a lack of desire for prayer because in your mind, there is nothing to pray about.

But that shouldn't be the case. And really, there's a lot to pray about.

Because we, being Christians, are in perpetual relationship with God, we cannot base our prayer life on a need. I mean, that is the least least concern we should have. Unfortunately, most of us have majored on this minor thing and minored on the most important things.

Ours is one of relationship. We go to God because He loves us and He genuinely wants to hear from us. We go to God because as we spend time with Him, He changes us, works on our heart, blesses us with His perspective on things and helps us in our purpose.

The right posture to prayer will birth in us greater dimensions of Him which we become; it also helps us in our love walk as we daily interact and relate with people; it also grows us into our purpose and the passions He has for us.

There is so much of us to be birthed as we spend time with Him.
There is so much to become.

So, I asked God, "Daddy, I receive the Grace needed to 'wake up for relationship'".
Where my motivation for waking up is not because of any need I have but just so that I can spend time with You and know You and grow into You. To that place where I am deeply immersed in You and we don't know where You end and where I start.
So, I ask that You help me. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Praise the Lord!

I hope this gets you thinking.
And when you go on your knees tomorrow as you seek Him, please don't forget to say a prayer for me as I celebrate my birthday.

My prayer is that in this new year, I grow into Him so much so that no one knows where He ends and where I start. In Jesus' name' amen.

God bless you.

With all my love,

Mary Magdalene ❤

  1. Good read. We pray for grace to be more intentional about our relationship with God.

Go With God

When I started Sharing Life, my intention was to put out what I knew Holy Spirit was teaching me. This was what He asked me to do. It wasn't to parade myself as an all-figured-out girl who was on her way to becoming a preacher.  It was a journey of life I was learning and one which I had received the go-ahead to let the world in on.  Somewhere on this road, I was seen as a "Woman of God" and put on this high and mighty pedestal which wasn't me.  And you know what, in such moments, it is so easy to get carried away by the accolades of men to the point where you lose sight of your journey, where you are and decide to serve the expectations of others... thereby neglecting your own journey and growth.  After taking a very long break from active writing, I have on numerous occasions attempted to start writing again but the fear of being put on that pedestal has stopped me so many times.  I am a child of God. I am a girl on a journey. I don't have it all f...

My journey with Holy Spirit

This might probably be the longest I will ever publish. Here we go... Senior High School I started my relationship with Holy Spirit in St. Louis Senior High School. At that time, my father was going through a bit of a struggle and I didn't want to be a burden to him. I had made a terrible decision to combine my chopbox with a friend's and when my provisions finished, I couldn't call home. I was sad and I remembered that daddy had told me that if I ever wanted to change and be a better human, I should start by reading the "Book of Proverbs".  I came across Wisdom and I prayed for that Friendship and then someway somehow, I believed that I was never alone and that I had a Friend with me and that was when I starting fellowshiping with Holy Spirit.     Prior to this, I remember when I was in class 6, I heard Someone share His heart with me. He asked me, " Why is it that when people have problems, they tell their friends about it and then their fr...

3 Things I Admire About King David

Hello Sharing Life fam! How is the going? I hope everything is kosher. One of the things I am most thankful for is to be a member of the Word & Spirit Feasts family. At the Word & Spirit Feasts, we have learnt how important structure is as we endeavour to be all that ABBA has called us to be. One of the principles that make a good spiritual structure is Bible Reading. I just finished 1Kings Chapter 2 and would like to share 3 things I admire about King David. 1.       King David did not entertain guilt and condemnation I have learnt that one thing the devil specialises in is condemnation. He is the accuser of the brethren for a reason. His commitment is in ensuring that we stay feeling bad for wrong done. One thing my spiritual father would say is: the devil will accuse of not doing the right thing and when you do the right thing, he will accuse you that it is not enough. That is what he does best. But, we see in 2Samuel 11 tha...
